ABOUT JOCELYN SAFDIEH

Jocelyn Safdieh was born and raised in Brooklyn, where she has received recognition in the local artistic community since the age of 14 when her art was chosen to represent the Salute to Israel Parade.

During her youth, she found inspiration and developed her artistic process while studying at the Brooklyn Museum Gallery/Studio Program and the
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens Workshops.

As an adult, she studied at Parsons School of Design in 1988, receiving her Associates of Science in Fine Arts from Kingsborough Community College and graduating with a BFA from Brooklyn College in 2018.

Her work has been exhibited extensively around the greater New York City area, and she has been featured in publications such as New York’s Jewish Journal and Jewish Week, and Our Art: The Artists of the Sephardic Jewish Community.

Safdieh is a true renaissance woman, having developed bodies of work across multiple artistic disciplines including painting, sculpture, and photography. Her most recent two- dimensional work tends to blur the lines between painting and sculpture, using untraditional materials ranging from candy to antique mirrors, and playing with dimensionality by grouping multiple canvas works with varying depths in order to create a dynamic installation.

Safdieh has a keen eye for design, and has collaborated directly with collectors and decorators on hundreds of custom commissions involving in-home consultations.

Throughout her career as an artist, her motivation has derived from her observations of the beauty in people and nature, and the desire to capture and convey that energy through her artwork.
